FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition), is a competitive robotics program for high school students. FIRST stands for "For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology." The program was founded in 1989 by inventor Dean Kamen and aims to inspire young people to pursue education and careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) fields.
In the FIRST Robotics Competition, teams of high school students, typically supported by adult mentors, are given a challenge at the beginning of each season. This challenge involves designing, building, and programming a large-scale robot to compete in a complex game that changes each year. Teams have a limited amount of time and resources to design and construct their robots, usually a few months.
